About the Book


When it was brand new, the book was a nonfiction finalist in the Authorlink 2002 International New Author Awards Competition. In those days, the work was called Quitting Smoking Easily and for Keeps.

Then, a top-notch literary agent tried placing my book with publishers; without success, alas! She is a superb agent, a member of AAR, the society all the best agents belong to; and, we remain friends to this day. However, there was a bit of wound-licking in it for me because Mary Sue could not convince her editor friends to print my little sweet book. Then suddenly it dawned on me how much better it would be to offer my book as an Ebook to upload online – It would solve a lot of problems: printing, distribution, plus making the book available instantly instead of torturing smokers hungry with a long and costly wait!

Seconds after you buy it, the book will appear on your monitor where you can read it in peace, or print it out on paper for less than the cost of a pack of cigarettes! Then a fiend, cunningly disguised as another literary agent sent me the following E-Mail, brutal as it is:

 "Why is it every time somebody gives up booze or cigarettes or chasing women, he feels the need to write a book?"

Slam dunk! I felt myself go woozy...

The trouble is, he had touched a nerve and even worse, his insideous message had a stung me like a bee so, in the heat of the moment I could not resist firing back, "You know, I hadn't even thought of it but dang! Now that you mention it, maybe I'll give up chasing women too, to go with quitting smoking!"








It was all a stupid bluff.

Happily married with little children, the oldest, Lola, who had talked me into stopping in the first place, hmmmm, the whole gang right there made my responsibility very clear: to be truthful with the little children who looked me in the face with total honesty in their eyes! Okay, maybe I fooled the agent, well at least I never heard from him again...

It's not bad, eh, exploring the subject of quitting just a little bit, leisurely, no pressure! Please, do not worry about the best stop smoking plan. It works better when there are other participants in the dialogue called thought!

Quitting smoking for good is not a set of quit smoking tips, it is not a trick, it is no act of will but consists of granting yourself enough faith in your own spontaneity, your native abilities and your self-interest (think of all the things you used to love that you’ve given up during the time you smoked– they’re just too much trouble anymore, now aren't they?)! You can have them all back again; it's like playing a country-western song backwards. Patches, gum, smokeless cigarettes, all the other crutches people think they need are actually ways of telling yourself you cannot do it on your own; and the worst is yet to come:


















Being like somebody else makes you better? It is a regretable mistake because smoking actually makes you worse. Mistakes tie intimately into your smoking habit! Smoking is self-deception and that is all there is to it. PERIOD! What really matters is you, your ability to live and love. The illusions, the slick fibs you tell yourself are exactly what they seem to be. Wake up and stop telling yourself the dumb excuses are all true! How to stop smoking is no crusade for finding the best method. That too, is just another lie. To stop is to answer to the question, what on earth is out there, what is in my mind that can possibly stop me from being me?
